80′s Fashion is NOW Fashion!

Hello pretty people of the internet world!! It has been awhile, and I’m just so excited and I just can’t hide it!! YEA, that just happened.  Apparently, the 80s are making a comeback in more ways than one! lol

What we really need to be talking about are the 80′s trends and fashions that are making a HUGE impact on our styles for the spring and summer trends.  What you might have been noticing around some stores are the brightly colored scarves, the mini skirts, geometric shapes, FLORAL (love!), button earrings, and polka dots (which are another favorite of mine)!! These are all inspired from the eclectic 80s which were a crazy decade where fashion was a statement made through neon, pastel, spikes, and a whole lot of crazy hair!

While everyone makes a little remark about the 80s and how awful the style was, I consider it a time where they were more outgoing and FUN!  And, you can dislike that time as much as you want, but we were able to get some amazing trends and inspiration from it! I mean hello..MADONNA!! haha! But really, the “material girl” did help inspire a generation with very questionable yet “express yourself” style.

The 80s

What I really loved about the trends at that time which are making big moves now are the fun accessories that go along with it!  These can range from huge statement pieces with shiny gold and sparkles to the bold and very colorful arm candy!  Also, a huge arm candy must-have which some of you may have noticed are the spikes and pyramid type bracelets that are great layering pieces!

I personally love the pastel mixes, and colors like mint, lilac, and coral. Throw them together, and you can make an outfit that is unique and shine worthy!

BUT!! What I’ve been dying to talk about for the last couple of weeks…. THE CARRIE DIARIES!! Yes, I am almost 25 and still watching teenybopper shows. Oh well, I’ll take it, mainly because I love this show!  Now, I wasn’t a regular viewer of Sex and the City, but I know the basics, plus I’ve seen the movies.  What I know 100% is that they had great fashion and Sex and the City knocked down the door for a woman to be inspired again to maybe try something new or think..”hey, I need that NOW!” However, this new and younger Carrie played by AnnaSophia Robb (who is so adorable and I love her crazy awesome hair!) is a more experimental Carrie.  She is still in high school in the 80s where big hair, colored jeans, shoulder pads, and neon were an everyday must.  So, it is interesting to see her style evolve and to learn how she becomes this amazing grown up Carrie who is the style icon to everyday real women.

The Carrie Diaries

The Carrie Diaries

What I love about the show is that you can find some of the same items that they wear or accessorize with in stores now!  Like the colored denim, the studded accessorizes, the neons, and some great dress/blazer combos that I am in love with!

You may have already noticed from previous posts that I’m all about recycling statement or “critical” pieces in your wardrobe. Now that doesn’t mean that you should become a hoarder…that might be pushing it.  But saving let’s say a great necklace that you know can be used for multiple uses is not a bad idea. My statement piece or let’s say my mother’s ….but I kinda took it from her…was her very bedazzled, very 80′s top and YES that means it had SHOULDER PADS!!! But, with a little editing like taking those shoulder pads out, I was able to create a great news year’s outfit with some black skinny jeans and boots! The BEST PART!! …everyone wanted to know where I got my top from???…….”Oh, it’s just something I had laying around…” :)

The 80s were a time to be inspired and to become more individualistic in your style whether you described it with what you wore or your hair color or what kind of music you listened to.

Here at NYZ MODA, we are always inspired by different decades and styles (obviously).  So, it’s natural that we would take the 80s and bring it back!

With The Carrie Diaries, I was able to see how that decade made such a huge impact on everything from fashion to music and so much more.

We want to celebrate our new inspirations and share them with our amazing fans!  SO…get ready….here comes 80′s night!!!! WOO HOO! We are so ecstatic to have an 80′s inspiration night on Thursday, March 21 at 8PM CST.  You can find some great items that we considered to be our take on how you can create a very “now” outfit from styles from the 80s! COME CHECK IT OUT HERE!

Bonus Fashion Update: Blazers!

Blazers

If you haven’t noticed, blazers are becoming a huge staple piece this year.  It’s part of the new lines at Banana Republic, Gap, Nordstrom, H&M, and so many more places.  MY favorite is the green blazer with white trim from GAP (so very MOD).  SO CUTE and perfect to add a little pop to your favorite denim…maybe with a white tee and a bold statement necklace…and don’t forget the nude pumps! AHH I need this outfit now!

Blazers = a PERFECT staple piece for any outfit and a great piece to always have in your collection …or closet…but collection just sounds so much cooler! Haha!

What’s your favorite go to blazer…the floral print, the classic black or white, the navy stripes, or is it the bold color blazer?!?!?  Either way, I am loving the different looks it can create!

Be sure to check NYZ MODA on Pinterest and Instagram for what we find to be our fashion statement!

A date with Oscar

The women of the red carpet dressed to impress Mr. Oscar on Sunday night. So, I decided to do my best/worst dressed list differently this time around. I thought I would list the things I liked and didn’t like about each dress. I gave a little input here and there on Oscar night if you were following on Twitter, but I’ll go a little more in depth here.

Obviously, there was one person who got it completely right, and she looked absolutely flawless. I think we can all guess who I’m thinking of… Jennifer Lawrence.

Jennifer Lawrence

She looked stunning in Dior Haute Couture. Her makeup, hair, and accessories went perfectly with the gown. I loved the necklace hanging loose in the back. I loved the big skirt. It was perfect for the Oscar winner’s big night.

I’m not going to stop there. My obsession with her has obviously grown since Sunday night. I mean who could possibly hate her after these memorable moments?

Jennifer Lawrence Fall

Jennifer Lawrence is a classy lady

Jennifer Lawrence Oops

I guess I should move on from here…

Amy Adams looks beautiful in her Oscar de la Renta gown.

Amy Adams

She, as well as many others, walked the red carpet in a softer hue. That pastel trend we have discussed many times was definitely evident on the red carpet Sunday. I am a big fan of the big skirts especially when it comes to nights like the Oscars. It’s your chance to look like a princess, and Amy Adams definitely knows how to play that role.

Next, we have the beautiful Jessica Chastain looking gorgeous in Armani Prive.

Jessica Chastain

Her whole look screamed old Hollywood glamour, and I loved it. Her gown fit her perfectly. Her soft sleek curls were perfect for the look she was going for, and most of all, I love the fact the she rocked bold red lips. It was the perfect touch to complete her outfit.

Anne Hathaway wore Prada last minute, and it was so unfortunate.

Anne Hathaway

She was supposed to be wearing Valentino that night (the dress on the right), but there was concern that it would look too similar to her Les Mis costar Amanda Seyfried’s gown. I feel like that’s a little unfair because this was Anne’s night. She was the Oscar winner here, so she should have been able to go with her first choice. But I understand why she had to change last minute. It just sucks because her red carpet reviews would have been A WHOLE LOT different if she had went with her original choice. However, I will say that I loved her accessories, and I especially loved her hair. She’s gotten a lot of Audrey Hepburn comparisons, and I can totally see that.

So you guys can easily compare, I’ll talk about Amanda Seyfried next.

Amanda Seyfried

She wore a beautiful Alexander McQueen gown Sunday night. Another soft hue we saw on the red carpet that night. Her hair looked great. I’m still not sure how I feel about her eyeshadow matching her dress. I think I would have liked something nude for her eyeshadow with the right eyeliner to really make her eyes pop. I know a lot of people have said she has outdone herself yet again, but I have to say I loved the Zac Posen dress she wore at the SAG awards more. I hate when she wears colors that wash her out. I think she looks better when she goes for bolder colors.

Next, we have Charlize Theron in Dior Haute Couture.

Charlize Theron

She looked very chic and modern in her gown. She is too beautiful. She’s even rocking the 7-year-old boy haircut.

Zoe Saldana wore Alexis Mabille Couture.

Zoe Saldana

I love and hate things about it. I love the top and bottom of the dress, and I can even get used to the belt. I really don’t like the bow. It’s too much. Otherwise, it was a gorgeous gown.

Kerry Washington looked stunning in Miu Miu.

Kerry Washington

FINALLY, someone went vibrant! I love the bold color choice. It’s a gorgeous gorgeous gown. I’m obsessed with it. The only thing I think she should have changed were her shoes, and she should have put her hair up. Okay, so that’s two, but still…SUPER OBSESSED with the dress.

Sally Field. SALLY FIELD. Who is a fan of Sally Field? This girl right here. She looked STUNNING in vintage Valentino.

Sally Field

I love the bold red. I love the sleeves. I just love her. She looks gorgeous. She’s like Jane Fonda, she never ages. She looked beautiful.

Another beauty in red, Jennifer Aniston. She wore Valentino as well.

Jennifer Aniston

She just makes it look too easy. She looked gorgeous on Sunday night. I can’t really say I hate anything about her dress or her hair or anything!

In my opinion, everyone brought their A game. Obviously, there is always going to be some misses, but I felt there wasn’t really a need for a best and worst. I’ll let the others categorize everyone.

What did you guys think of all the red carpet fashion this year? Who would you put on your best and worst dressed list? Let me know!

Until next time..

Valentine’s Day

Happy almost Valentine’s Day! With the upcoming holiday approaching/ almost here, it is a time for some (as Cosmo or other magazines have stated) to find the perfect “______” < insert the location, date, outfit, movie, etc here! BUT! what I think everyone forgets is that Valentine’s Day is not just about couples (married or not) anymore.  To me, it has become a holiday where people can appreciate the ones they love and care about whether that be a friend, family member, or husband/wife. SOO! if you might feel sad or just “blah” that you don’t have that perfect “whatever” remember that it’s not just about couples anymore, and you should go celebrate just a night out or in and enjoy it with the people you care about NOT a blind date that isn’t very great at conversation!! YOLO so ENJOY IT!! :)

Happy V-Day We wish all of you a very HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!! AND!!! a special HAPPY BIRTHDAY to fellow NYZ MODA fashionista “N” who will celebrate her birthday on the 14th!  Happy Birthday! shimmy shimmy! <3

The Grammy’s Red Carpet Fashion

Let’s take a look at this year’s Grammy fashion!!

How about we start with the worst dressed first!

Grammy's Worst Dressed

Worst Dressed

5: Jennifer Lopez in Anthony Vaccarello – I’m not a big fan of the fabric. It was sticking to her, and she kept adjusting it during the show. Obviously, that’s not a HUGE deal because she’s sexy and will look good in anything, but I’m not a fan of what she decided to go with for the night.

4: Katy Perry in Gucci – I know they say if you got it, flaunt it….buuutttt I don’t know… It was just a TAD too much. It definitely showed off her bod! WOW! I’m on my way to the gym now!!

3: Beyonce in Osman – I love the black and white, but I was just expecting so much more from Beyonce. I mean it’s the Grammy’s!! It’s your show, girl! GO ALL OUT!!

2: Ashanti in Tony Ward Couture - Have you seen this dress? Oh my, it is not pretty. I don’t like the little flowers all over. It would have been better without it. Stick with black. It’s a classic.

1: Kimbra in Jamie Lee Major – It was a fashion risk…just not a good one. It would have made a pretty costume for Halloween.

Now, it’s time for the best dressed of the night!! Take a look.

Grammy's Best Dressed

Best Dressed

5: Carrie Underwood in Roberto Cavalli – Love the dress, get rid of the necklace, and put your hair up, Carrie!! I know the necklace is worth millions of dollars, but there is so much on the dress that she doesn’t need it. I loved her Barbie dress on stage, but we’re talking about the red carpet here!

4: Solange Knowles in Ralph & Russo Couture – I love her outfit! I love her dress, the color, the shoes! And her HAIR!!! Amazing. She looked great that night.

3: Taylor Swift in J. Mendel – Okay…I am a little obsessed with this dress. And by a little..I mean A LOT. She looked amazing! Her hair was kind of messy, but I don’t care. I was too busy obsessing over her dress, and I’m usually not the biggest fan of her wardrobe choices.

2: Kelly Rowland in Georges Chakra – Kelly looks STUNNING in her dress. Lots of cutouts. She CLEARLY avoided the memo about the wardrobe. But it was worth it to show the world how hot she is on the red carpet!

1: Rihanna in Alaia – BEAUTIFUL. Red is always a bold color, whether you’re wearing it on your lips or in a gown. And Rihanna rocked BOTH! She looked amazing. I love the way the dress falls. Number 1 BEST DRESSED!

That’s all folks! As always, there were many more do’s and don’ts that probably should have been noted, but I’m going to keep it short.

It’s almost Oscar time, and that’s what I’m really looking forward to. I want to try live tweeting during the red carpet. We’ll see how it goes! Follow me @nyzmoda

Until next time…

White Out

Alright y’all! Here is another style update!  We are falling in love with the white accessories of 2013! As we’ve already told you white and black will definitely be a HUGE color combo for this year.  And what’s great about it is that those are literally “in” or “stylish” at any given time!  One of my favorites with this color combo is the white accessories that come along with it!

Personally, I have always been a fan of white jewelry!  It just makes me feel so bold and daring! PLUS, it looks sooo cute in those spring and summer dresses that are also a fav of mine!  At NYZ MODA, we are all about giving you an early start to the trends that are coming up or that we find interesting, and WHITE is on its way and in some places already here!!

You can see them in the new campaign for Banana Republic where they mix a white dress with white accessories! AND of course, the lovely Kate Spade and their fabulous white accessories…FANTASTIC!!

An even better example..NORDSTROM where they are “trending: white jewelry!” and I LOVE THEM ALL!! So fun yet with classic qualities.

High-End Whites

High-End Whites

What I’m probably MOST excited about is that the white accessories that I guess you could say have been staples in the summer are working their way into everyone’s spring wardrobe.  They aren’t just for one season anymore and I applaud this! With winter white becoming bigger this year, the move to spring is not shocking, but definitely a nice addition to the trends for the upcoming months!  Be sure to check out the white collection by NYZ MODA, here, on Monday, February 4 at 8 PM CST!!

SAG BUST

I really don’t even know where to start. Who watched the Screen Actors Guild Awards? I did, and it wasn’t worth it. While I LOVE to see the winners of each category perform their acceptance speeches, I am totally in it for the red carpet fashion… And let me tell you.. It was a TOTAL let down. This is a formal affair, and while everyone MAY have been wearing the right attire (except Justin Timberlake, of course), it looked like everyone went shopping at David’s Bridal. These people are celebrities, and they can wear whatever they want… I mean all of them are wearing designer, but I am just simply not impressed.

Jennifer Lawrence, Anne Hathaway, and Jessica Chastain

Jennifer Lawrence, Anne Hathaway, and Jessica Chastain

I’ll applaud Jennifer Lawrence because she is fighting pneumonia, and she still looks great! But of course, I’m bias. I’m not a huge fan of her dress from that night though. I don’t even know where to start with Anne Hathaway’s dress. I just did NOT like it! The tulle.. everything.. it was just too much. NOT A FAN. Jessica Chastain got a few points for her dress. She definitely did better in this Alexander McQueen over what she wore at the Golden Globes. But WHAT is with the jewelry?! I’m sorry, I know they’re real diamonds… but THEY LOOK LIKE THEY’RE FROM SAM MOON!!!! I don’t know. I am just disappointed, as you can tell already..

Amanda Seyfried in Zac Posen

Amanda Seyfried

Ahh but a breath of fresh air.. Here comes Amanda Seyfried in one of my favorite gowns of the night! She looks amazing in Zac Posen! I loved it. She definitely makes my best dressed list….if one actually existed for the SAG. I don’t find it necessary to have one when so many of these fine celebrities didn’t quite dress to impress for the red carpet this time.

Marion Cotillard in Christian Dior

Marion Cotillard

SURPRISE! Here’s someone else I loved! Marion Cotillard in Christian Dior. Fashion Police didn’t even mention her, but I LOVED HER DRESS! The color blocking. The colors. The shape. Everything just looked great!

I’m not going to waste anymore time talking about who I didn’t like and what was wrong with all of the dresses that night. Instead let’s cross our fingers and hope they go for the gold on Oscar night!!

Until then..

Add a POP of color!

Hey pretty people! time for another marvelous style update!

InStyle

February’s InStyle

I absolutely fell in love with the color pop in February’s issue of InStyle! As some may have guessed from previous posts…I LOVE colors!  They are so bright and fun and can make any outfit look and feel more vibrant!

What’s great about these colors pops..well they aren’t necessarily in what dress or shirt you wear…or just for wallets… NOPE! it’s all about accessorizing with your favorite handbag! These bright colors can make a fun spring look complete and create a summer by the beach feel as well!

Some of the best of the best (to me) are the ones that are travel friendly since many of us, whether traveling near or far during the spring and summer, want something that is friendly to the endless security checks and the “randoms” that happen to fall into your bag..something like “hey how did I fit three magazine and two water bottles in here” kinda thing.

Color Pop Handbags

Many of my favorites are the larger bags that have crossbody abilities to them, that way you can have multiple ways to use them!

Color Pop Crossbody

NYZ MODA Color Pop Bags

Our color pop collection

ALSO, a favorite for the days when you don’t need to carry fifteen extra pounds of “handbag baby weight” are the very light and super CUTE crossbody bags!  We have a few great pieces in our collection that will be sold this week at NYZ MODA! They are fun, bright, edgy (with some metal detail), very trendy, very multi use (since you can use it as a clutch with the removal of the strap), and honestly just a SUPER way get a great “color pop” bag without having to pay hundred of dollars for it.

Be sure to check it out HERE!

What’s your favorite travel/ spring summer bag?

Golden Globes: Best & Worst Dressed

What a night it was! Lots of glamour on the red carpet on Sunday! We’ve heard a lot from other entertainment shows and sites; now, it’s time to give our two cents.

Here are our best dressed of the night:

Best Dressed

Best Dressed

Number 5: The beautiful Jennifer Lawrence wearing Dior. I’m not a HUGE fan of what’s going on around her chest, but she looks gorgeous. Did you know she had the flu? Yeah. STUNNING.

Number 4: Kristen Bell is pregnant and beautiful in Jenny Packham. I have never seen someone look that good on the red carpet when they’re pregnant. It is just THE best dress for her. SO PRETTY!!

Number 3: Hayden Panettiere looks stunning in Roberto Cavalli! I’ve never seen her look this good. She is beautiful.

Number 2: Anne Hathaway looks beautiful in Chanel. I love her hair. I love the simple look. It just goes great. She looks amazing!!!

Number 1: For us, Kate Hudson stole the night in Alexander McQueen! We are OBSESSED with her dress. She looked BEAUTIFUL!

And our worst dressed…. First, I want to say I love everyone here. There were many more weird dresses, but I went with the top 5 that bothered me the most…

Worst Dressed

Worst Dressed

Number 5: Jessica Chastain. I LOVE HER. I’m so upset she’s on my list. However, I hate her hair, and she looks saggy in this Calvin Klein gown. Just not a good look.

Number 4: Nicole Kidman got a lot of rave for this Alexander McQueen dress, but I just don’t like it. Plain and simple. I wish I had more of an explanation.

Number 3: Rachel Weiz is wearing Louis Vuitton. I don’t like the dress. On Fashion Police, they said maybe if it was at a different event, but I don’t think so. I feel like this dress could be found at Forever 21.

Number 2: Katharine McPhee is wearing shoes with a clear strap. A CLEAR STRAP. What is that? I have no idea.. I don’t like the dress at all. The way she was posing made it look like she was trying to keep her dress up. I just think she could have gone with something better than the Theyskens’ Theory gown.

Number 1: Halle Berry is so beautiful, so why is she wearing this Versace gown? It’s pinned all wrong. I feel like you could wear this dress on a date night at the beach..not the Golden Globes. I hate that I’m saying this about one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood!

Overall, there were some BEAUTIFUL gowns on Sunday. Hits and misses as usual! We’ll see what the next red carpet brings us! I’M EXCITED!

…I must say this was really hard lol I don’t know how they always pick the best/worst! Hopefully, it’ll get easier every time we do this! Until next time..

xoxo
